ArtsFest 2021

Overlea Artsfest 2021
Reviews

The 6th annual Overlea ArtsFest happened on August 6th and 7th at our new home at Holt Park & Center for the Arts, making us a true multi-day festival. The ‘by-invitation’ Juried Art Show & Sale opened Friday evening August 6th, with artists, gallery owners, elected officials and local business owners in attendance. Carrabba’s Overlea gave out complimentary wine and sweet treats to the attendees, who networked and purchased original art pieces from the juried show and the art silent auction. WMAR-TV came to film the event and shared the story on their late news broadcast.

Saturday August 7th brought a day of live entertainment at the park from a variety of talented local performers: The ‘Merely Players’ acting troupe performed snippets of Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure” in Steampunk costumes; local favorite Josie Baltimore sang her own brand of ‘doo-wop soul’; Schroeder Cherry and his Puppets gave an original puppet show performance; and 4 young ladies from the Dewmore Poetry group shared powerful and deeply personal feelings in spoken word. The Juried Art Show continued, and attendees were able to vote on their favorite artwork in our People’s Choice Awards. Families brought their kids (and dogs) to enjoy the day, and walked the nature trails in the woods nearby, participating in the scavenger hunt organized by Holt Park staff. Local Venture scouts from Crew 2013 were on hand to share demonstrations of their amazing 3-D printed limbs project, and Weis Market gave out complimentary ice cream sandwiches and drinks to all.
